Basketball Recap: Roncalli Snags Third Win in Last Four Games

Roncalli won the last time they faced Lafayette Central Catholic, and Noah Schmaltz did his part to make sure it happened again. The Roncalli Royals walked away with a 64-54 victory over the Lafayette Central Catholic Knights on Tuesday which was due in part to Schmaltz, who to rack up 18 points and three steals. Those 18 points gave him a new career-high.

The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Greene, who posted 12 points. Thanks to that strong game, he now owns an excellent 41.9% three-point shooting accuracy.

Lafayette Central Catholic's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Joey Metzger, who scored 11 points. Another player making a difference was Mikey Stapleton, who on his way to 14 points.

Roncalli is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season. Lafayette Central Catholic has traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last nine matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-13 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Roncalli will take on Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Roncalli is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.5 points per game this season. As for Lafayette Central Catholic, they will head out to take on Lewis Cass at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Lafayette Central Catholic is facing Lewis Cass at the right time seeing as Lewis Cass is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
