Baseball Recap: Tuesday's Victory Is Harpeth's Seventh in Last Eight Outings

Harpeth won the last time they faced Hickman County and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Indians blew past the Bulldogs 10-3. Considering the Indians have won five matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Harpeth got a great performance from Hudson Clark as he struck out nine batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits.

At the plate, Preston Merritt and Aaron Higgs did most of the damage at the plate: Merritt scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4, while Higgs scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Merritt has become a key player for Harpeth: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 3-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Chance Ford, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Harpeth is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Hickman County, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season.

Harpeth will have a chance to go back-to-back against Hickman County: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
