The Brighton Bengals had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They managed a 70-64 victory over Juan Diego Catholic on Friday. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Brighton to victory, but perhaps none more so than Nash Matheson, who scored 26 points. The matchup was Matheson's seventh in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Josh Mawhinney, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds.
Luke Meyer and Caden Fenger certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Meyer scored 18 points along with eight rebounds, while Fenger scored 14 points along with eight assists. That's the first time this season that Fenger posted eight or more assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Javier Aguirre, who scored seven points.
Even though they lost, Juan Diego Catholic were working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Brighton now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Juan Diego Catholic, they now have a losing record at 2-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Brighton will be home for the holidays to greet Park City at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Juan Diego Catholic will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Judge Memorial Catholic at 7:30 p.m. on December 29th.
