Baseball Recap: Hawthorne Gets the Win

Hawthorne proved they can win big last Thursday (they won by 13) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Oak Hall Eagles 6-4. This was payback for the Hornets, who suffered a 10-0 loss the last time these two teams met.

Loniki 'LJ' Jackson was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-2. Another player making a difference was Branson Byrd, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2.

Hawthorne always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .519. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Oak Hall only posted an OBP of .312.

Hawthorne is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. Oak Hall's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-4.

Coming up, Hawthorne will welcome Bronson at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Oak Hall, they will venture away from home to square off against Gainesville at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Oak Hall is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
