3A Mid-State recap Oct. 23, 2012
Northern Guilford extended the longest winning streak in 3A Mid-State this week by beating Morehead, 44-8. The victory was the ninth in a row for the Nighthawks.
Eastern Alamance and Rockingham County played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Eastern Alamance eventually emerging with a 20-17 victory. Josh Long threw for 87 yards and one touchdown and ran for 24 yards in the win.
Williams's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Christian Miles threw for 82 and two touchdowns and Konnor Miles had 54 yards receiving. On the ground Jaylin Jeffries chipped in 198 yards. AJ Fields helped Williams' passing attack out by catching one ball for 14 yards.
The Eagles' Long and Malik Wilson have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Long has thrown for 1808 yards this season, while Wilson, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 22 catches for 622 yards. T.J. Logan from Northern Guilford leads the league in rushing with 1430 yards.
Eastern Alamance's Long is within 192 passing yards of surpassing 2,000 on the season coming into this week's game against the Bulldogs.
Jeffries of the Williams is only six yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 142 carries Jeffries has accumulated 994 yard this year.
A big matchup in 3A Mid-State this week will be when Western Alamance takes on Johnny Roscoe's team. The Warriors are currently in third, while the Nighthawks are in first.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Western Alamance takes on Northern Guilford. Jeff Snuffer's team has allowed 181 points this season, while the Nighthawks have given up 50. The Warriors allowed 0 points last week as they bested McMichael.
Western Alamance took down the Phoenix 66-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
