Two dominant guards in Lainee Houillon and Sydney Esperanza are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Sumner Spartans will be playing in front of their home fans against the Kentridge Chargers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Sumner's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last seven matches.
Last Saturday, Sumner earned a 58-46 win over the Lions.
Meanwhile, Kentridge was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 57-52 to the Conquerors. Kentridge has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
The losing side was boosted by Esperanza, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten rebounds. It was the first time this season that she pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayla Keowla, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Sumner's victory bumped their record up to 21-1. As for Kentridge, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-9.
Everything came up roses for Sumner against the Chargers in their previous meeting back in February of 2022 as the team secured a 78-32 victory. Will Sumner repeat their success, or do the Chargers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
