Greeley West is 1-8 against Longmont since December of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Greeley West Spartans will head out on the road to take on the Longmont Trojans at 5:30 p.m. The pair have had a bumpy ride up to this point with ten consecutive losses for Greeley West and four for Longmont.
Last Wednesday, Greeley West came up short against Greeley Central and fell 45-33.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Itzel Guidry, who scored nine points along with six rebounds and four blocks. She hasn't dropped below two blocks for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Paige Rupple, who scored 14 points.
Meanwhile, Longmont took a serious blow against Holy Family on Wednesday, falling 57-28. While losing is never fun, Longmont can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 116th, while Holy Family is ranked 12th).
Greeley West dropped their record down to 3-16 with that loss, which was their fourth straight at home. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 21.5 points per game. As for Longmont, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-10 record this season.
Greeley West took a serious blow against Longmont when the teams last played back in January, falling 57-26. The game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Greeley West was down 34-13.
