Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for The Highland Hornets, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They were beaten by Los Alamos 55-13 on Friday. Highland was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 27-7.
When it comes to explaining why Highland lost, one person who can't be blamed is Amiri Mumba. Despite the final result, he rushed for 162 yards and a touchdown. Mumba hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for six straight games.
Kyle Evenhus was on fire for Los Alamos: he threw for 321 yards and four touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Haiden Jorgenson was in the mix too, providing Los Alamos with two touchdowns.
Highland's defeat dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Los Alamos, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-2.
Highland does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Los Alamos will head out on the road to face off against Artesia at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Artesia is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
