The Mendon Unity Mustangs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fifth straight loss. They fell to Lewistown 55-50. Mendon Unity was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Lewistown apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
Lewistown got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Lexi Kruzan out in front who scored 17 points along with five rebounds. Abby Wiegand was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Mendon Unity has not been sharp recently, as they've lost six of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-10 record this season. As for Lewistown, the victory got them back to even at 9-9.
Mendon Unity is on the road again on Saturday and play against Liberty at 12:00 p.m. on January 6th. Liberty will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings (they are ranked 482nd, while Mendon Unity is ranked 237th). As for Lewistown, they will face off against Brown County at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. Brown County has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 178 points over their last three matches.
