The Memorial Red Devils will venture away from home to face off against the McDonald Blue Devils at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Memorial has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with seven straight losses, while McDonald will come in with seven straight wins.
Memorial managed to slip by Jackson-Milton the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Red Devils came up short against the Bluejays on Tuesday, falling 17-0.
Meanwhile, McDonald earned a 6-1 victory over Waterloo on Tuesday.
Aubrey Evans made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 15 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Clair O'Leary, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Marissa Colarich, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one RBI.
Memorial's defeat dropped their record down to 2-9. As for McDonald, their record now sits at 9-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Memorial has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like McDonald struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 14.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Memorial couldn't quite finish off McDonald when the teams last played back in May of 2025 and fell 2-0. Can the Red Devils avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
