The Dos Palos Broncos will challenge the Chavez Titans at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Dos Palos sitting on six straight wins and Chavez on three.
Dos Palos is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over Sierra. Considering the Broncos have won 14 matches by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Breann Raney was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Liliana DelaRosa, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Athena Correa, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Chavez got themselves on the board against Exeter on Friday, but Exeter never followed suit. They walked away with a 5-0 victory over the Monarchs.
The result came thanks to Madyson Herrera's shutout, as she gave up just five hits and racked up nine Ks.
On the hitting side, Chavez's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was DIANA MAGANA, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Alexis Elizondo was another, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
Dos Palos pushed their record up to 17-8-1 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Chavez, the victory got them back to even at 13-13.
Dos Palos took their win against Chavez when the teams last played back in March of 2015 by a conclusive 13-4 score. Do the Broncos have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Titans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
