The Tempe Prep Knights won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Tuesday. They took a serious blow against Phoenix Country Day, falling 61-12. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Tempe Prep in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now lost nine in a row.
Phoenix Country Day was led to victory by Madison Gordon and Aila Kaibara. Gordon scored 17 points along with five steals, while Kaibara scored 23 points along with six steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Gordon has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Elsa Termansen, who scored six points along with nine rebounds.
Tempe Prep dropped their record down to 5-11 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight at home. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 18.8 points per game. As for Phoenix Country Day, the win (which was their 12th in a row) raised their record to 20-3.
Tempe Prep won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on January 31st. Hopefully Horizon Honors focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Monday. As for Phoenix Country Day, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against the Heat at 5:30 p.m. Madison Highland Prep will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Arizona Rankings (they are ranked 270th, while the Eagles are ranked 18th).
