Western Athletic Conference recap November 5, 2013
Central Valley moved up to 422 from 487 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Western Athletic Conference. The Hawks were able to move up by topping Los Banos 35-7.
Patterson added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Livingston, 42-15. The win marks ninth in a row for the the Tigers.
Brad Bussard threw for 248 yards and 2 touchdowns. He was 23-39 with 3 interceptions.
Dylan Canatsy was the best wideout in the league this week as Ceres fell to Central Catholic. Canatsy racked up 8 receptions for 89 yards. Juan Anderson helped Ceres' passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 68 yards.
The Bulldogs' Bussard and Canatsy have formed a dream team this season, leading Western Athletic Conference in both passing and receiving yards. 6-0 quarterback Bussard has thrown for 2,547 yards this season, while Canatsy has 71 catches for 1,049 yards. Ja'Quan Gardner from Central Valley leads the league in rushing with 1,769 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Patterson takes on second place Central Catholic. Last week, Patterson topped the Wolves, while the Raiders beat Ceres.
Two of the top teams in the league will go toe-to-toe this week when Central Catholic takes on Nick Marchy's team. Roger Canepa's team's offense has recorded 372 points this season, making them No. 1 in the league, while the Tigers have permitted only 123 on the year.
Frank Ginda of the Pacheco is only 40 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 94 carries Ginda has put up 960 yards this year.
One of the league's premier quarterbacks will go head-to-head with its top pass rusher when Bret Durossette's team and Jason McCloskey's team face off next week.
The Bulldogs lost to the Raiders 56-12 last week, the largest margin of any game. Bussard in the defeat.
