The Derby Panthers were the 74-68 winner over the McPherson Bullpups when they last played one another back in December of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Derby was just a bucket shy of victory on Tuesday and fell 58-57 to McPherson. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Derby's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Mason Anderson, who scored 13 points. Kaden Franklin was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Derby's defeat dropped their record down to 0-1. As for McPherson, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-0.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Derby will square off against Andover Central at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Andover Central focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Tuesday. As for McPherson, they will head out on the road to face off against Andover at 12:00 p.m. on Friday.
