Canon-McMillan moved up to 318 from 345 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in WPIAL AAAA Southeastern. The Big Macs were able to make the jump by beating the Big Macs 35-12.
Upper St. Clair extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Butler, 34-3. The win marks sixth in a row for the the Panthers.
Mt. Lebanon's dynamic duo of Tyler Roth and Dimitri Orfanopoulos proved tough for Canon-McMillan to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Roth threw for 201 yards and two touchdowns and Orfanopoulos had 73 yards receiving. Mark Buda helped Mt. Lebanon's passing attack out by catching one ball for 37 yards.
Pete Coughlin provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Upper St. Clair topped the Golden Tornado. He completed five passes for 83 yards and one touchdown and also ran for 118 yards. Coughlin's favorite target this week was Ben Haus, who caught three passes for 44 yards.
The Blue Devils' Roth and Troy Apke have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Roth has thrown for 1336 yards this season, while Apke, a 6-foot-2 receiver, has 28 catches for 643 yards. Coughlin from Jim Render's team leads the league in rushing with 342 yards.
A big matchup in WPIAL AAAA Southeastern this week will be when Bethel Park takes on the Panthers. At the moment, the Black Hawks are in fifth, while Upper St. Clair is in first.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Bethel Park takes on the Panthers. Jeff Metheny's team has allowed 79 points this season, while Upper St. Clair has given up 35. The Black Hawks allowed 7 points last week as they defeated Penn Hills.
