The Alameda Pirates fell victim to the Elizabeth Cardinals''s stalwart defense on Thursday and couldn't make it onto the board. They were beaten by the Cardinals 56-0. Alameda just can't catch a break and has now endured seven losses in a row.
Elizabeth's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cooper Connelley, who rushed for 78 yards and a touchdown. Connelley was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 54 yards. Another big playmaker for Elizabeth was Malachi Mariscal, who returned a punt for a touchdown.
Alameda's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 1-7. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 11.3 points per game. As for Elizabeth, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Alameda will challenge Denver West at 2:00 p.m. on October 28th. Denver West comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 12 points in their last four games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. As for Elizabeth, they will head out on the road to face off against The Classical Academy at 7:00 p.m. on October 27th. The Classical Academy will be coming into the match with an undefeated record on the line.
