Baseball Recap: Normal Community Beats Urbana for Their Fifth Straight Win

Normal Community came tearing into Friday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Urbana Tigers with a sharp 11-1 win. Considering the Ironmen have won nine matches by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Tyler Swanson tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Andrew Naour was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Gavin Michaels, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Normal Community always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .559. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Urbana only posted an OBP of .316.

Normal Community's victory bumped their record up to 19-4. As for Urbana, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-14.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Normal Community will face off against Moline at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Urbana, they will take on Danville at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Vikings have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.25 runs per game on average), something the Tigers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
