The Calhoun Academy Cavaliers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They took a 34-21 hit to the loss column at the hands of Curtis Baptist. While losing is never fun, Calhoun Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 252nd in South Carolina, while Curtis Baptist is ranked 122nd in Georgia).
Curtis Baptist found their leader in underclassman Maci Butler, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 17 rebounds. Nyla Robinson was another key contributor, scoring four points along with six rebounds.
Calhoun Academy's loss was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-12. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 26.5 points per game. As for Curtis Baptist, the win was the 12th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 20-5.
Calhoun Academy will head out on the road to take on St. John's Christian Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Calhoun Academy is facing St. John's Christian Academy at the right time seeing as St. John's Christian Academy is stuck on a seven-game losing streak. Curtis Baptist does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
