In what's become a running theme this season, the Desert Edge Scorpions gave their fans yet another huge victory on Wednesday. They blew past Lake Havasu 50-17 on the road. Given Desert Edge's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 107th, while Lake Havasu is ranked 256th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Aysja Ward was her usual excellent self, scoring 22 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last eight games she's played. Another player making a difference was Monica Orozco, who scored four points along with six steals and five rebounds.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Lake Havasu struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Desert Edge pulled down 18 offensive rebounds.
Desert Edge is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-10 record this season. As for Lake Havasu, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost eight of their last nine matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-19 record this season.
Desert Edge will be playing at home against Verrado at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Desert Edge will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Verrado surely won't give up without a fight. As for Lake Havasu, they will head out on the road to face off against Desert Mountain at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Lake Havasu is facing Desert Mountain at the right time seeing as Desert Mountain is stuck on a 14-game losing streak.
