The Dundalk Owls will venture away from home to face off against the Franklin Indians at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Dundalk is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11 runs per game this season.
Dundalk's last matchup with Hereford could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's contest on Thursday. The Owls came up short against the Bulls, falling 8-2. Having soared to a lofty 18 runs in the game before, the Owls couldn't push the score so high this time.
Kenisha Gelpi and Makayla Woods did some serious damage despite the final result: Gelpi went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double, while Woods went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. Woods has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Alessa Sergi also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Parkville hit Franklin with a five-run fifth inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Indians fell just short of the Knights by a score of 7-6.
Lanee Houser and Mia Cleveland stepped up to the plate in a big way. Houser went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double, while Cleveland went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Jada Lochary, who went 2-for-3 with one run.
Franklin's loss dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Dundalk, the defeat was their first on the road , dropping their record down to 6-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Dundalk has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Franklin struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Dundalk skirted past Franklin 8-6 in their previous meeting back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Owls since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
