Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Lamar walked away with it. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Horse Creek Academy Stallions on Friday, sneaking past 5-3. The victory was nothing new for the Silver Foxes as they're now sitting on six straight.
Abby McManus made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
McManus wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Gabby Mendiola, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Lamar pushed their record up to 15-8 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Horse Creek Academy, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 15-7 record.
