The Lafayette Christian Cougars extended their postseason success on Tuesday against the Covington Academy Bulldogs. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 75-73 win over the Bulldogs. The win was familiar territory for Lafayette Christian who now have five in a row.
Lafayette Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Bruno Tellez led the charge by scoring 22 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Tellez has been hot recently, having posted 16 or more points the last 17 times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Joshua Zapata, who scored 24 points.
Lafayette Christian is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. As for Covington Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 9-6.
Lafayette Christian will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Trinity Christian School of Griffin at 7:30 p.m. on February 8th. Lafayette Christian knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 14 contests -- so hopefully Trinity Christian School of Griffin likes a good challenge. Covington Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
