The Academy of the Holy Names Jaguars pushed their score all the way to 59 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They lost to Seffner Christian at home by a decisive 74-59 margin. Academy of the Holy Names has not had much luck with Seffner Christian recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Several Jaguars players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Morgan Hunt, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds. Those 13 points set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Grace Gavin, who scored 18 points.
Even though they lost, Academy of the Holy Names were working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Seffner Christian only racked up 20 assists.
Nicole Carreno was her usual excellent self, scoring 17 points along with eight rebounds and three steals for Seffner Christian. The contest was Carreno's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jaslyn Easley, who scored 16 points.
Academy of the Holy Names' loss dropped their record down to 7-2. As for Seffner Christian, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 8-0.
Academy of the Holy Names will head out on the road to face off against Gibbs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Gibbs will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 135th, while Academy of the Holy Names is ranked 42nd). Seffner Christian will be home for the holidays to greet Riverview Sarasota at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Riverview Sarasota has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 456 points over their last seven matchups.
