The South Caldwell Spartans lost against the Watauga Pioneers back in January of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. South Caldwell took a hard 60-46 fall against Watauga. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for South Caldwell in their matchups with Watauga: they've now lost five in a row.
Despite the loss, South Caldwell still got an impressive performance from Lillie Bumgarner, who scored 19 points. Bumgarner has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Addison Edwards, who scored 11 points.
It was another big night for Kate Sears, who scored 21 points along with eight assists and seven rebounds for Watauga. Sears is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last eight games she's played. Charlotte Torgerson was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
South Caldwell's defeat dropped their record down to 9-6. As for Watauga, they pushed their record up to 11-3 with that win, which was their fifth straight at home.
South Caldwell will take on Freedom at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Freedom is coming into the game hot, having won their last five games. As for Watauga, they will head out on the road to face off against Mount Tabor at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. Mount Tabor will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 76th, while Watauga is ranked 14th).
