The Elberta Warriors''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They took a serious blow against Vigor, falling 46-7. While losing is never fun, Elberta can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama football rankings (they are ranked 186th, while Vigor is ranked 39th).
Leading Vigor to victory were Jerrian Graham and CJ Benjamin Jr. Graham threw for 209 yards and two touchdowns on only 11 passes, while Benjamin Jr rushed for 142 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries. Benjamin Jr was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 57 yards. Gerritt Holcombe was another key contributor, picking up 100 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Another reason for the win was Vigor's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. Leading the way was Jabarrius Garror and his two sacks.
Elberta's loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 2-6. The slump could be explained by some tough opposition over that stretch, namely Vigor, Gulf Shores, and UMS-Wright Prep. As for Vigor, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Elberta will challenge Rain at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Rain is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games. As for Vigor, they will head out on the road to face off against Gulf Shores at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Gulf Shores is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
