After flying high against the Wayne Academy Jaguars last Friday, the Simpson Academy Cougars came back down to earth. Simpson Academy fell just short of Lamar by a score of 50-48. The matchup was a 25-25 toss-up at halftime, but Simpson Academy was outscored by Lamar in the second.
Leading Lamar to victory were Blake Hart and Aryah Grace. Hart scored 18 points along with five rebounds and two steals, while Grace dropped a double-double on 22 points and 19 rebounds. That makes it nine consecutive games in which Grace has scored at least a third of Lamar's points.
Simpson Academy's loss dropped their record down to 17-10. As for Lamar, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-11.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Simpson Academy won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Park Place Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on January 19th. Park Place Christian Academy has now lost nine straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since October 24. Lamar won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against East Rankin Academy at 6:00 p.m. on January 19th. East Rankin Academy will be looking to extend their current nine-game winning streak.
