The Jones Fightin' Tigers entered their tilt with the Wekiva Mustangs with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Everything went Jones' way against Wekiva last Friday as Jones made off with a 68-47 victory. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 27-7.
Jones' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Trever Jackson, who rushed for 91 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries, and also threw for 48 yards and a touchdown while completing 75% of his passes. Jackson was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 55 yards. Vernell Brown iii also helped out with an impressive 101 receiving yards.
Jones is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. As for Wekiva, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 4-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Jones will square off against Horizon at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Horizon will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 280th, while Jones is ranked 29th). Wekiva will have plenty of time to ponder what went wrong as they've got a bye scheduled next week. After, they'll take on Apopka at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Apopka and Wekiva are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads.
