2A-2 Region IV District 16 recap November 5, 2013
Banquete's OJ Ramirez recorded the longest rushing play in 2A-2 Region IV District 16 this season in his game against Kaufer last week. Ramirez's team defeated the Seahawks as he sprinted for 98 yards on the play and finished with 182 in all.
Refugio added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Santa Gertrudis Academy, 77-0. The victory was the sixth in a row for the team.
Banquete's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Cooper Wildman threw for 37 yards and Smiley Almaguer had 37 yards receiving. On the ground Ramirez chipped in 182 yards.
Kevin Hermes' team's dynamic duo of Wildman and Almaguer proved tough for Kaufer to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Ramirez provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Bulldogs beat the Seahawks.
5-foot-10 quarterback Travis Quintanilla of Refugio is the league leader in passing yards this season with 875. He has also thrown 6 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Ronnie Ocanas. The Banquete star has 6 catches for 147 yards.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Hebbronville takes on Taft. At the moment, the Longhorns are in third, while the Greyhounds are in second.
There should be lots of points scored when Banquete and Freer face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Bulldogs comes in having scored 186 this season, while the Buckaroos have scored 220. Banquete scored 34 points last week as it beat Kaufer.
Jason Herring's team led 2A-2 Region IV District 16 in scoring this week by notching 77 points on the Lions.
