The Wickenburg Christian Academy Lion put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They breezed by Our Lady of the Sun Academy at home to the tune of 69-41. Wickenburg Christian Academy has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six contests by 25 points or more this season.
It was another big night for Evan Gustin, who scored 21 points along with seven assists and seven rebounds. He has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Matthew Sheehan, who scored ten points along with eight assists and four steals.
Despite the defeat, Our Lady of the Sun Academy had strong showings from Brady Webster, who scored 23 points along with eight rebounds and two steals, and Joseph Reiss, who scored 16 points along with seven assists and seven rebounds. That was a full 39% of Our Lady of the Sun Academy's points, marking the ninth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Isaac Ley was another key contributor, scoring two points along with two steals.
Wickenburg Christian Academy's victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-0. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.6 points per game. As for Our Lady of the Sun Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-6.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wickenburg Christian Academy will challenge Trinity Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Arizona (Trinity Christian is ranked 81st, while Wickenburg Christian Academy is ranked 59th). Our Lady of the Sun Academy's road trip will continue as they head out to face Varsity Opponent at 6:00 p.m. on January 17th.
