Softball Recap: Leo Snags Eighth Victory in Last Nine Games

Leo came out on top against Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run second inning. The Lions walked away with a 10-7 victory over the Saints. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Lions also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2024.

Carley Funk and Malina Lape did most of the damage at the plate: Funk got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double, while Lape went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three RBI gave Lape a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Emma Connally, who earned one RBI, one run, and one stolen base.

Leo has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger, they moved to 8-5 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Looking ahead, Leo will head out on the road to challenge East Noble at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger, they will be taking part in a tournament against Western at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Panthers' pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so the Saints' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
