The GVCS Broadfording Lions scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They managed a 69-65 victory over Grace Academy. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
GVCS Broadfording's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Brandon Monroe, who dropped a double-double on 28 points and 12 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Monroe scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Daniel Cartwright, who scored 19 points along with five rebounds.
Grace Academy's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Peter Ciardiello, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 rebounds, and Carson Feeser who scored 25 points along with two steals. That was a full 33.8% of Grace Academy's points, marking the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Ronan Casey was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
The victory makes it two in a row for GVCS Broadfording and bumps their season record up to 5-15. As for Grace Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. GVCS Broadfording won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Mountain Ridge at 2:00 p.m. on January 13th. Hopefully Mountain Ridge focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 26 last Friday. Grace Academy's road trip will continue as they head out to face Calvary Christian Academy at 6:30 p.m. on January 19th.
