The Bellville Brahmas were the 52-48 winner over the Wharton Tigers when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. Bellville fell just short of Wharton by a score of 38-36.
Bellville lost on Tuesday despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Maggie Davoody, who scored ten points along with three steals. That's the first time this season that Davoody grabbed two or more steals. Ainsley Hancock was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with 13 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Bellville were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Wharton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kadyn Smith led the charge by dropping a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds. Smith continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Khelbi Mayberry, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Bellville has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-7 record this season. As for Wharton, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 15-4.
Bellville and Seguin will round out the year against one another at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday at. Seguin is hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses. Wharton will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Navasota at 12:30 p.m. on December 30th.
