Basketball Recap: Jillian Salts' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Carroll over Rossville

Carroll's game on Friday was all tied up 12-12 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They fell just short of the Rossville Hornets by a score of 36-33. The Cougars were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hornets apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

Carroll lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Jillian Salts, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. With that strong performance, Salts is now averaging an impressive 8.1 rebounds per game. Another player making a difference was Teagan Coveris, who posted seven points in addition to seven rebounds and three blocks.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Rossville to victory, but perhaps none more so than Victoria Vanderwall, who put up six points along with six boards and three steals. Vanderwall is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Burkle, who posted nine points in addition to eight boards and four steals.

Carroll's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-4. As for Rossville, they moved to 7-4 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Carroll didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 50-27 loss against Lewis Cass on the 27th. As for Rossville, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on North Newton at 6:00 p.m. on December 30th.
