The Starpoint Spartans will challenge the Mercyhurst Prep Lakers at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Starpoint hadn't beaten Williamsville South on the road since June 23, 2021 but that history sure didn't bother them two weeks ago. The Spartans blew past the Billies 16-5. The high-scoring effort was just what the Spartans needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.
Starpoint got a massive performance out of NICK PREZIOSO, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was NICK NUNZIO, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
Starpoint always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .605. The last time their OBP was this high was was before the start of last season.
Meanwhile, Mercyhurst Prep strolled into their game on Wednesday with a perfect record and they left with the same. Everything went their way against Eisenhower as they made off with an 11-1 victory. The Lakers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by six runs or more this season.
Josh Majczyk was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Mercyhurst Prep let Tanner Ashton and Zack Kruszewski run wild. Ashton went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base, while Kruszewski went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that Kruszewski has launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Brady Coleman, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Mercyhurst Prep pushed their record up to 7-0 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Starpoint, the win got them back to even at 1-1.
