The Leake Academy Rebels will head out on the road to challenge the Simpson Academy Cougars at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Leake Academy stacked a 19th blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Wayne Academy 72-34 at home. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 48-20.
Leake Academy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Katye Jones out in front who scored 13 points along with three steals. Jones hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Marleigh Myers was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with four steals.
Simpson Academy posted their biggest win yet this season on Friday. They really took it to Park Place Christian Academy for the full four quarters, racking up a 60-7 win on the road. Given Simpson Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 41st, while Park Place Christian Academy is ranked 182nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leake Academy has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 23-4 record this season. As for Simpson Academy, their win bumped their record up to 18-10.
Leake Academy opened the new year with a less-than-successful 51-42 defeat to Simpson Academy. Can Leake Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
