Tamarac and Saratoga Central Catholic are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2019, but likely not for long. The Bengals will face off against the Saints at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Tamarac is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
Tamarac managed to slip by Greenwich the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Bengals lost 9-1 to the Witches on Thursday. The matchup marked the Bengals' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Tamarac saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dylan Gerik, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Saratoga Central Catholic put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over Mechanicville. Considering the Saints have won 12 games by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Tyler Weygand made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Weygand was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hunter Fales, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times he's played. Jason Pescetti was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
Saratoga Central Catholic's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-0. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Tamarac, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-5 record this season.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Tamarac has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Saratoga Central Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging 11.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Tamarac suffered a grim 13-1 defeat to Saratoga Central Catholic in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Bengals avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
