Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in prep basketball. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2023-24 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in addition to local and state accolades.
Caleb Holt of
Buckhorn (New Market) is the 2023-24 Alabama MaxPreps Player of the Year. The 6-foot-5 sophomore wing led the Bucks to a 29-5 record and their second consecutive Class 6A state championship.
For the season, Holt averaged 20.2 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 2.4 assists per game. He tallied 16 points and 12 rebounds in Buckhorn's 52-51 win over Mountain Brook (Birmingham) in the title game.

Regarded as the No. 3 prospect in the Class of 2026 according to
247Sports, Holt has received offers from Alabama, Auburn, Cincinnati, Georgia, Houston, Kansas State, LSU, Mississippi and Mississippi State among others.
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which will be released April 10.
