Sequoyah is 1-9 against River Ridge since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Sequoyah Chiefs on the road again and play against the River Ridge Knights at 6:00 p.m. on January 16th. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Friday, Sequoyah was able to grind out a solid victory over Creekview, taking the game 40-27.
Sequoyah relied on the efforts of Addison Ghorley, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and three steals, and Carly Bass, who scored 13 points along with nine rebounds and three steals. Bass is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played.
Meanwhile, River Ridge came tearing into Saturday's match with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against Buford by a score of 74-67. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
River Ridge's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Finley Parker, who scored 28 points along with four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Parker has scored all season. Kayla Cleaveland was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Sequoyah is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. As for River Ridge, their win was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-4.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Sequoyah have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 29.3 rebounds per game. However, it's not like River Ridge struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 35.3 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Sequoyah might still be hurting after the 68-43 loss they got from River Ridge in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. Can Sequoyah avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
