AAA District 11 recap October 1, 2013
Franklin extended the longest winning streak in AAA District 11 this week by beating Lincoln County, 27-6. The victory was the fifth in a row for the Rebels.
Independence lost to Blackman 47-6 last week, the largest margin of any game. Vic Wharton III caught 5 passes for 89 yards in the loss.
Jackson Michie was a key player and the best on defense this week as Franklin topped the Falcons. The 6-foot-0 defensive end.
Aaron Maher was a passing and rushing force as Brentwood lost to Oakland. He completed 26 passes for 235 yards and also ran for 33 yards. Maher's key target this week was Jalen Marsalis, who caught 11 passes for 107 yards.
Joe Critchlow and Colton Black gave the Rebels a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Critchlow threw for 124 yards and 2 touchdowns, while Black ran for 98 yards. Teammate Nic Hardemon added to the ground attack by rushing for 43 yards.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Independence's Caleb Hollis and Wharton III have proven to be a lethal combination. Hollis has thrown for 1,121 yards this season, while Wharton III, a 5-foot-11 receiver, has 29 catches for 553 yards. Franklin's Black leads the league in rushing yards with 432.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Ravenwood takes on Centennial. The Raptors are currently in second, while the Cougars are in third.
Centennial led AAA District 11 in scoring this week by notching 38 points on Mount Juliet.
