The Ste. Genevieve Dragons suffered their closest defeat since December 4, 2023 on Thursday. They fell just short of South Iron by a score of 60-57. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Ste. Genevieve's loss came despite strong showings from Bri Abt and Kiki Asher. Abt dropped a double-double on 16 points and 15 rebounds, while Asher scored 21 points along with five rebounds. It was the first time this season that Asher scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayden Huck, who scored seven points along with 12 rebounds and two steals.
Ste. Genevieve has not been sharp recently as the team's lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-10 record this season. As for South Iron, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 12-7.
Ste. Genevieve is on the road again on Saturday and plays the Bulldogs at 2:30 p.m. on February 3rd. As for South Iron, they will face off against the Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
