5A Northwest Oregon recap October 1, 2013
Sherwood's Jake Reimer recorded the longest rushing play in 5A Northwest Oregon this season in his game against Liberty last week. Reimer scampered for 94 yards on the play and finished with 201 on the day as his team bested the Falcons.
Adding to the longest winning streak in the league this week, Sherwood beat Liberty 66-12. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
Keegan Lawrence provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Bowmen topped Eric Mahlum's team.
Austin Goldstein made the biggest impact on defense this week as Sherwood bested the Falcons. The 6-foot-6 senior grabbed 2.0 sacks.
Gage Bumgardner threw for 213 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Lawrence was a force in the backfield as the Bowmen topped Liberty.
Lawrence was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 301 yards on 16 carries as Sherwood bested Hood River Valley. Teammate Reimer added to the ground attack by rushing for 201 yards.
The Lions' Bumgardner and Bumgardner led 5A Northwest Oregon in both passing and receiving yards. Bumgardner has thrown for 660 yards this season, while Bumgardner, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 10 catches for 179 yards. The Bowmen's Lawrence leads the league in rushing yards with 995.
Sherwood's Lawrence needs only 5 yards against Parkrose next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 47 carries Lawrence has put up 995 yards this year.
As it stands, the Bowmen are in first, while the Broncos are in third.
Sherwood took down the Falcons 66-12 last week, the largest margin of any game. Lawrence ran for 301 yards during the win.
