Perry is 8-2 against Basha since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Pumas will be playing at home against the Bears at 3:45 p.m. Neither Perry nor Basha posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.
Perry is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Arizona's top teams: O'Connor, who was ranked 21st at the time (Perry was ranked second). The Pumas fell 5-2 to the Eagles on Thursday. The game marked the Pumas' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.
Perry got a good showing from Jaxson Schattenberg, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Schattenberg has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Andrew Hover was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run. That home run was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Calendo, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Basha was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They lost 9-0 to Tolleson.
Basha saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gavin Hamilton, who went 1-for-3 with one triple.
Basha now has a losing record of 8-9-1. As for Perry, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 13-4.
Basha's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Perry has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .484. It's a different story for Basha, though, as they've only averaged .364. Will they be able to contain Perry's hitters?
Perry came out on top in a nail-biter against Basha in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, sneaking past 5-4. Will the Pumas repeat their success, or do the Bears have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
