4A Region I District 6 recap Oct. 9, 2012
Carter-Riverside moved up to 990 from 1,032 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 4A Region I District 6. A 18-6 win over Poly helped the Eagles improve their standing.
Birdville extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating North Side, 70-0. The win marks sixth in a row for the the Hawks.
Birdville's dynamic duo of Justin Martin and Collin Basinger proved tough for the Steers to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Martin threw for 213 yards and four touchdowns and Basinger had 85 yards receiving. Will Hayward helped Birdville's passing attack out by catching four balls for 84 yards.
Joe Martinez was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 190 yards on 25 carries as Boswell bested North Side. Zach Files also contributed to the rushing game with 85 yards on the ground.
Thanks to the talents of Martin and Xavier Turner the Hawks have been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Martin leads the league in passing with 1440 yards, while Turner has rushed for 322 yards this season. The Pioneers' Scott Moody leads the league in receiving yards with 507 on 24 catches.
A big matchup in 4A Region I District 6 this week will be when Eastern Hills takes on Birdville. At the moment, the Highlanders are in fourth, while the Hawks are in second.
Birdville led the league in scoring this week after putting up 70 points on Andy Mills' team. Martin ran for 24 yards in the win.
