The Wheeler County Bulldogs suffered their closest defeat yet this season on Monday. They fell just short of Jeff Davis by a score of 52-50. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Wheeler County in their matchups with Jeff Davis: they've now lost four in a row.
Despite the loss, Wheeler County still got an impressive performance from Nikita James, who scored 38 points along with six steals. That was a full 76% of Wheeler County's points, marking the 14th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Maryee Grace Selph, who scored five points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Wheeler County dropped their record down to 1-14 with that defeat, which was their ninth straight on the road. As for Jeff Davis, their victory ended a 20-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-16.
Wheeler County will head out on the road to challenge Telfair County at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Telfair County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 42 on Tuesday. As for Jeff Davis, they will stay at home for another game and welcome Berrien at 6:00 p.m. on January 23rd. Berrien is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak.
