If the West Orange Mountaineers were feeling good off their 71-45 takedown of the Columbia Cougars on Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. West Orange took a 62-56 hit to the loss column at the hands of Notre Dame Academy. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
When it comes to explaining why West Orange lost on Sunday, one person who can't be blamed is Anaya Karriem. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds. Karriem scored a full 26.8% of West Orange's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Kyley Gary-Grayson was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with five rebounds and three blocks.
Sabrina Kraker continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Notre Dame Academy, dropping a double-double on 13 points and 14 rebounds. Kraker is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Caitlin Sweeney, who scored 13 points along with four steals.
West Orange's loss dropped their record down to 8-3. As for Notre Dame Academy, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 8-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. West Orange will take on University at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. University will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak. Notre Dame Academy won't have much time to rest: their next match is against St. Edmund Prep at 7:00 p.m. on January 8th. St. Edmund Prep is hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses.
