Moore is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Tuesday. They will look to defend their home field against the Bullitt Central Cougars at 5:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Moore gave up the first runs on Saturday, but they didn't let that get them down. They walked away with an 11-8 victory over Jeffersontown. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mustangs.
The team relied heavily on Luisdel Benites, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Isaac Northern, who went 1-for-2 with two runs.
Meanwhile, Bullitt Central hadn't done well against Fern Creek recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Cougars blew past the Tigers 11-1. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by ten runs or more this season.
Jordan Powell was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Logan Leber and Taylor Coffman did most of the damage at the plate: Leber went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Coffman went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those two hits gave Leber a new career-high. Easton Burkhardt was another key player, earning one RBI, one run, and two stolen bases.
Bullitt Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .528. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Bullitt Central pushed their record up to 11-8 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for Moore, their win bumped their record up to 5-1.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Moore has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .505. However, it's not like Bullitt Central struggles in that department as they've averaged .451. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Moore suffered a grim 15-0 defeat to Bullitt Central when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Mustangs have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
