The Holbrook Roadrunners have not had quite the year their fans were hoping for to this point, but back-to-back wins may be a sign of good things to come. They came out on top against Winslow by a score of 48-41 on Thursday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Holbrook also won the last time the pair played back in February of 2023.
Holbrook's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Noheah Aberle, who scored 16 points along with nine rebounds and two steals. Aberle is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Maya Francisco, who scored ten points along with two steals.
Winslow's loss came despite strong showings from Jauslyn Nells and Taylin Puhuhefvaya. Nells scored 13 points along with nine rebounds and four steals, while Puhuhefvaya scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. That's the first time this season that Puhuhefvaya pulled down eight or more rebounds. Meteighka James was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Holbrook's win bumped their record up to 7-14. As for Winslow, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-13.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Holbrook will square off against Snowflake at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Snowflake presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Holbrook in Arizona (Snowflake is ranked 24th, while Holbrook is ranked 117th). As for Winslow, they will head out on the road to face off against Pusch Ridge Christian Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. Pusch Ridge Christian Academy will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive.
