The Elk Lake Warriors will take on the Holy Cross Crusaders at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Elk Lake is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9 runs per game this season.
Elk Lake took a loss when they played away from home two weeks ago, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed last Monday. They blew past Forest City 14-4. The win continues a trend for the Warriors in their matchups with the Foresters: they've now won eight in a row.
Braydon McMicken made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Dawson Sherman, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Matthias Morris was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Elk Lake hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Forest City struck out nine times.
Meanwhile, Holy Cross was not able to break out of their rough patch last Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They came up short against Dunmore, falling 8-1.
Holy Cross saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Josh Lentowski, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.
Elk Lake's victory bumped their record up to 13-3. As for Holy Cross, their loss dropped their record down to 6-14.
Holy Cross' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Elk Lake has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .456. It's a different story for Holy Cross, though, as they've only averaged .330. Will they be able to contain Elk Lake's hitters?
Elk Lake took their win against Holy Cross in their previous meeting back in May of 2023 by a conclusive 11-1 score. Will the Warriors repeat their success, or do the Crusaders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
