The Springfield Spartans are taking a road trip to square off against the Norton Panthers at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Springfield will be strutting in after a win while Norton will be coming in after a defeat.
Springfield is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 13-2 margin over Woodridge on Monday. With that victory, the Spartans brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.
Lindzee Ritterbeck made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over five innings pitched. Ritterbeck was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one triple.
In other batting news, Springfield got a massive performance out of Breanna Ruggiero, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Those stolen bases marked the first that Ruggiero has snagged this season. Emily Crytzer was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Springfield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Woodridge only posted an OBP of .353.
Meanwhile, Norton didn't have quite enough to beat Coventry on Monday and fell 7-6.
Gianna Calhoun made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.
Norton's loss dropped their record down to 5-2. As for Springfield, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Springfield hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .393. However, it's not like Norton struggles in that department as they've averaged .338. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Springfield beat Norton 8-3 when the teams last played back in May of 2025. Will the Spartans repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
