Ventura is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Calvary Baptist is on a seven-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Ventura Cougars will take on the Calvary Baptist Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Ventura had no problem doing just that on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 62-42 win. Given Ventura's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 507th, while South El Monte is ranked 1036th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Ventura relied on the efforts of Finn Fancher, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds, and Travis Valenzuela, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Valenzuela has scored all season. Caleb Sebek was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Calvary Baptist didn't have too much trouble with Geffen Academy at home on Wednesday as they won 54-37.
Ventura's victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-16. As for Calvary Baptist, their win bumped their record up to 25-4.
